Coutney Named NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN,  W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America selected senior Matt Coutney of the Old Dominion baseball team as the Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week, the organization released on Tuesday.
 
Coutney hit safely in all four of ODU's games last week, notching two hits in each game. The senior batted 8-for-17 (.471) with a slugging percentage of 1.412. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Coutney hit a home run in every game last week, smacking five out of the park, while adding a double and 11 runs batted in.
 
In a 9-2 win at No. 5 Virginia on Tuesday, Coutney was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and four runs batted in. He also left the yard twice in the Monarchs' 13-2 series-opening win at UAB. Against the Blazers, Coutney hit 6-for-13 (.462) with seven RBIs and five runs scored to help ODU to another conference series win.
