DALLAS – Senior Matt Coutney of the Old Dominion baseball team raked his way to Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Coutney hit safely in all four of ODU's games last week, notching two hits in each game. The senior batted 8-for-17 (.471) with a slugging percentage of 1.412. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Coutney hit a home run in every game last week, smacking five out of the park, while adding a double and 11 runs batted in.

In a 9-2 win at No. 5 Virginia on Tuesday, Coutney was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and four runs batted in. He also left the yard twice in the Monarchs' 13-2 series-opening win at UAB. Against the Blazers, Coutney hit 6-for-13 (.462) with seven RBIs and five runs scored to help ODU to another conference series win.

Following another impressive week at the dish, Coutney is now second nationally with 16 home runs and ranks top-five in C-USA in slugging (.794, first), average (.359, fifth), on-base percentage (.469, fourth), runs scored (39, second), runs batted in (39, fourth) and total bases (104, fourth).

Coutney becomes the third Monarch to receive weekly honors from C-USA this season. Andy Garriola earned hitter of the week recognition twice (March 21, April 4), and Blake Morgan was the pitcher of the week on April 11.

Old Dominion plays at William & Mary on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hosting Florida Atlantic for three games this Friday through Sunday.
