NORFOLK, Va. – For the third time this spring, Old Dominion University women's tennis senior standout Yuliia Starodubtseva was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Starodubtseva was 4-0 on the week, winning both her singles and doubles matches, as the Old Dominion Monarchs went 2-0. On Friday, she scored her fifth win of the year over a nationally-ranked opponent by defeating No. 77 Paola Diaz Delgado of No. 59 VCU 6-2, 6-2 as the Monarchs won the match 6-1. Two days later, she defeated Emily Tannenbaum of Navy 6-3, 6-0 as the Monarchs won the match 7-0. In doubles, she and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya won over VCU (6-3) and Navy (6-1).
So far this year, Starodubtseva is 24-5 in singles and ranked 23rd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings announced on Wednesday. In doubles, she and Sasnouskaya are currently seventh nationally with a 26-6 record this year. As a team, the Monarchs are currently No. 34.
The Monarchs close out the regular season celebrating Senior Day on Saturday when they face Charlotte at 10 a.m. and JMU at 4 p.m.
