NORFOLK, Va. – The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team finished off a home weekend with an impressive 7-0 win over Navy at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Monarchs won quickly at the top spot with the fourth-ranked tandem of Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Yuliia Starodubtseva scoring a 6-1 win over Samantha Johns and Stella Ribaudo. The point was clinched at number three with Sofia Johnson and Alexandra Viktorovich taking a 6-4 win over Jillian Taggart and Kacey Moore.
During singles, the Monarchs won all matches in straight sets. Sasnouskaya opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number two, while Shahar Biran took a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six for a 3-0 lead. Alesya Yakubovich clinched the match for the Monarchs with a 6-, 6-2 win at number five to lead 4-0.
Starodubtseva pushed the lead to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win at number one, followed by a win by Johnson at number four by a 6-0, 6-4 count. In what turned into the tightest match of the day, Marina Alcaide won at number three singles 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) to take the 7-0 victory.
Old Dominion (15-6) will close out its regular season on April 16 with a pair of matches starting with Charlotte at 10 a.m. and then James Madison at 4 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will be prior to the Charlotte match.
