Around the Horn
The Monarchs improved to 9-1 on the season with four straight wins last week. ODU prevailed 3-1 at VCU on Tuesday behind a Kenny Levari single and Andy Garriola triple in the sixth inning. Old Dominion then swept Bryant (1-0, 7-6, 23-7) over the weekend.

Tommy Gertner threw four innings of two-hit ball, Brett Smith tossed 1.2 innings of relief, and Jason Hartline spun three innings without allowing a hit in Friday's win. Hartline is now 3-for-3 in save opportunities this year, has not allowed a run and has struck out 12 in 8.1 innings.

ODU jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Saturday only for Bryant to tie it up in the top of the eighth, but a Josh Trujillo single in the bottom of the inning drove home Dominick Claxton for the winning run.

The bats exploded for 23 hits and five home runs on a windy Sunday afternoon. Levari went 4-for-5 with four runs driven in, and Chris Dengler had three hits, including his first collegiate homer, with five RBIs and three runs scored.

ODU hit .312 over the past week and is batting .300 on the season. Levari is second on the team in batting (.351) and is first in hits (13) and RBIs (14). Garriola owns a team-high five home runs.
