NORFOLK, Va. – A frantic comeback bid by the 56th-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team fell short on Friday as the Monarchs fell 4-3 to 60th-ranked Florida Atlantic at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

In doubles, the Owls took the team point with wins at the top two spots.

Singles saw FAU take two wins at the number four and six spots to push the lead to 3-0. ODU got on the board with a win by Yevhen Sirous at number five over Gerard Escandell 6-4, 6-3, followed by a win at number one by Francois Le Tallec over Kevin Huempfner 6-4, 6-4.

Younes Lalami pulled the Monarchs even with a three-set win at number three over Alvaro Fernandez Horta 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Owls got the team win as an injury to Luca Maldoner stopped the match at number two singles.

The worst ending for any sporting event. Our guys didn't deserve this type of finish. We will be there for Luca and come together as the family we are. Go Monarchs.
