NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University women's soccer opened its spring slate with a 1-0 win over VCU on Saturday.

On a windy afternoon, the only goal of the match occurred at the 30 minute mark of the first half when Gry Boe Thrysoe won a ball at midfield and found Carla Morich who fired a shot past the VCU keeper.

"We had difficult conditions today to deal with. It was a hot day, it was really blustery which spoiled the game at times and certainly made it challenging for both sides. First half I thought our shape was very good and we combined well in the middle third without being really dangerous. Second half against the wind it was a struggle to get the ball down and play as we wanted but we scored a good goal with a great breakaway from Gry and quality finish from Carla. After that understandably VCU threw a lot more at us which was good as it provided a real test for our back line and I was pleased we stood up to it."

"Obviously it's the first game of the spring season and we have much to work on to improve but as a staff we were really pleased to get some new faces on the field for the first time in all areas of the field and they did well. We will watch a lot of video this week and continue to work to improve for this weekend's games"

This weekend ODU travels to George Mason on Sunday to compete in a multi-team event.
