NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 24 Old Dominion baseball team completes its nonconference weekend slate as Stony Brook comes to Bud Metheny Ballpark for a three-game series. Due to inclement weather expected to hit Norfolk this weekend, the teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The final game will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games are streaming live on CUSA.tv.
Around the Horn
The Monarchs (10-1) scored in each of the first six innings in Tuesday's 15-5 win over Princeton. Dating back to Saturday, ODU had scored in 15-consecutive innings until a scoreless seventh inning against the Tigers.
Since stepping into the leadoff spot in last Saturday's win over Bryant, Kenny Levari is 7-for-13 with five runs scored and seven RBIs. For the season, Levari is hitting .333 with a team-high 16 RBIs.
Chris Dengler is 7-for-9 in the last two games and has raised his average to .333. Dengler hit his first career homer in Sunday's win over Bryant and was 4-for-5 in the win over Princeton.
Tommy Gertner earned his first win of the season last Friday pitching four shutout innings to lower his ERA to 3.27. Nick Pantos is 2-0 with a 3.29 ERA and Sam Armstrong is 1-0 with a 3.97 ERA as weekend starters so far this season. Jason Hartline and Noah Dean have led the bullpen with 13 combined shutout innings between them.
Scouting Stony Brook
Stony Brook comes into the weekend with a record of 3-8. The Seawolves took 2-of-3 last weekend at Western Carolina before losing on Tuesday to LIU, 10-6.
Shortstop Stanton Leuthner leads Stony Brook with a .359 average, a homer and has six RBIs on the season. Third baseman Evan Giordano is hitting .205 with a home run and team-best eight runs driven in.
The Seawolves have already used seven different starting pitchers on the weekend this season. Nick DeGennaro leads the starters with a 0.93 ERA. Ben Fero (0-0, 2.16 ERA), Brandon Lashley (0-0, 3.55 ERA) and Josh O'Neill (1-1, 8.10 ERA) are probable starters.
Jack Carr and Brendan Pattermann each have a save out of the bullpen.
