CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Old Dominion University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 match at the 23rd-ranked Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon to finish a two-match Florida swing.
The doubles point went to the Hurricanes winning at number one (6-0) and number three (6-1) to clinch the point.
In singles, the Monarchs got on the board at number one with 71st-ranked Yuliia Starodubtseva knocking off Eden Richardson 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 to trail 2-1. After falling at number six, 106th-ranked Alexandra Viktorovich won at number four over Audrey Boch-Collins 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to trail 3-2. Sofia Johnson evened the dual match at number five singles with a 4-6 6-4 6-4 win over Maya Tahan. Miami won in three sets at number three to take the dual victory.
ODU (3-2) now will head to Madison, Wisconsin to participate in the ITA Indoor National Championships starting on Thursday.
