NORFOLK, Va. – In a battle of nationally-ranked men's tennis teams on Saturday, the 45th ranked Old Dominion Monarchs pulled a 4-0 win over 60th ranked Furman at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Monarchs won matches at the number one and three spots to clinch the team point. ODU's tandem of Codie van Schalkwyk and Francois Le Tallec won 6-2 at number three, while Luca Maldoner and Yevhen Sirous took a 6-4 win at number one for the team point.
Singles saw the Monarchs take victories at the top three spots, all in straight sets, for the 4-0 sweep. Maldoner won 6-3, 6-4 over Ivan Mitric at number one, and Younes Lalami took a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jamie Connel at number two for a 3-0 lead.
The match was clinched by Yevhen Sirous at number three with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Elijah Poritzky to lock up the dual victory.
ODU (5-4) turns right around and takes on Virginia Tech on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
