Around the Horn

Thomas Wheeler was 6-of-13 (.462) against the Gales with seven runs scored and six driven in and had a career-best four hits in Saturday's win. Kenny Levari batted .455 (5-of-11) last weekend and drove in eight runs.

Old Dominion was aggressive on the basepaths against Iona, swiping 12 bags without getting caught. Wheeler, Josh Trujillo and Chris Dengler had three steals apiece.

On the mound, the Monarchs allowed just three runs on 11 hits. ODU starters Tommy Gertner, Nick Pantos and Sam Armstrong combined for two runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts and only four walks. Armstrong went five innings in his debut on Sunday, allowing just one run while fanning seven. The bullpen shined on Sunday, going four innings without allowing a hit and striking out five.

James Tarkenton II was responsible for the moment of the weekend with a three-run home run in the seventh inning on Saturday. The homer came in his first collegiate at-bat to cap a long return from injury for the sophomore.

Tommy Bell enters the weekend tied for the most times being hit by a pitch in program history. Bell was beaned twice on Sunday and now has been hit by a pitch 42 times in his career. The senior from Kettering, Ohio is tied with Maika Symmonds (1992-95).
