Starodubtseva Named C-USA Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – With a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents to help lead the Old Dominion women's tennis team to its first-ever Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor National Championship appearance, Yuliia Starodubtseva was named Conference USA Player of the Week on Wednesday.
 
Starodubtseva, ranked 71st nationally, pulled two wins over this past weekend as Old Dominion defeated 12th-ranked Georgia Tech 4-3 and Ole Miss 4-3 to win the Atlanta regional of the ITA Kickoff.   Against the Yellow Jackets, she defeated the 69th-ranked Ava Hrastar 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-4.  On Sunday, she took on the 20th-ranked Tiphanie Fiquet and won 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.
 
With the wins, Old Dominion advanced to the ITA Indoor National Championships Feb. 11-13 at the University of Wisconsin.
 
"It's very rewarding for me to see Yuliia be recognized for her accomplishments," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.  "We have worked together for five years now and it seems to get better all the time."

The Monarchs are back in action this weekend with a pair of matches in Florida starting Thursday night taking on the University of Florida at 5 pm and then visiting the University of Miami on Saturday at noon.
