Pepperdine Tops Women's Tennis In ITA Opener
MADISON, WISC. – Fifth-seeded Pepperdine defeated the Old Dominion women's tennis team 4-1 in the opening round of the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor National Championships held at the University of Wisconsin on Friday.
With the loss, Old Dominion will face Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Aggies, ranked eighth-nationally, dropped a 4-3 decision to fourth-seeded Cal also on Friday afternoon.
The doubles point went to the Waves after wins at the top two spots. The Monarchs got on the board at the number four singles spot where Alexandra Viktorovich scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over 23rd-ranked Taisiya Pachkaleva. Pepperdine got wins at number two, five and six singles to lock up the dual win.
Marina Alcaide was ahead 3-6, 6-2, 5-3 at number three singles when the match was halted.
"It was a good match and I am proud to feel bad today," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "Alex played another great match in knocking off a top-25 ranked player. I am so happy for her."
