NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women's tennis team will participate this weekend in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend tournament in a regional hosted by 12th-ranked Georgia Tech starting Saturday.
"It's always an honor to participate in the ITA Kickoff Weekend event and we will definitely be tested with a strong field in our Atlanta regional," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
Old Dominion will face the Yellow Jackets at 10 a.m., with a match between 14th-ranked Michigan and Ole Miss following at 1 p.m. The winners will play Sunday at 1p.m., while the losers will face off at 10 a.m.
With 15 regional sites across the country, the teams that go 2-0 this weekend will then head to Madison, Wisconsin for the ITA Indoor Nationals from Feb. 18-21.
Old Dominion (1-0) enters the event after a 7-0 win in its season opener against Penn State on Jan. 16. The Monarchs dropped only one set in its season debut as Yuliia Starodubtseva scored a three-set win at number one singles winning the third-set tiebreak 10-8.
Georgia Tech opens this weekend after having its scheduled season-opener with Georgia State postponed.
The other side of the bracket will have Michigan taking on Ole Miss. The Wolverines are 2-0 with wins over Western Michigan and Oakland, while Ole Miss is also 2-0 after a pair of wins over North Alabama.
