NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women's tennis team will host Penn State University on Sunday at 11 a.m. inside Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center to begin their 2022 spring season.
"I'm excited for this season as we return several key players from last year's championship team and look to continue the trajectory women's tennis at Old Dominion has been on," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "Opening up with Big Ten opponent in Penn State is a great way to start the season, he added. "
Old Dominion, the defending Conference USA champions, has three players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings heading into spring play. Leading that group is the doubles tandem of Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Yuliia Starodubtseva who were ranked third nationally. This comes off the heels of a pair of runner-up finishes at the ITA Women's All-American Championships and the ITA National Fall Championships this year.
For Starodubtseva, this is her second time ranked in the top ten nationally as she was as high as sixth in the fall of 2019 with Alesya Yakubovich. In singles, the Monarchs enter the spring with three ranked as Starodubtseva is ranked 71st, Alexandra Viktrovich (106) and Sasnouskaya (116).
ODU will head to Atlanta, Ga. for their next contest as they'll take on Georgia Tech in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 29.
