NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's soccer head coach Angie Hind announced the Monarchs upcoming schedule for the 2021 season on Thursday. In all, ODU has 14 regular season matches with eight of those taking place at home, as well as a total of eight Conference USA games.
"As a team, we are so excited for the 2021 fall season," said Hind. "While there are a few modifications in our C-USA schedule, I believe we again have a really strong overall schedule. Our non-conference schedule puts us up against some very strong opponents from the state of Virginia and North Carolina and we have the added boost of having many of these games at home."
Old Dominion's non-conference slate is highlighted with home matches against East Carolina (Aug. 19), NC State (Aug. 22), VCU (Sept. 2) and Richmond (Sept. 5). The Monarchs will be on the road for games against William & Mary (Aug. 26) and American (Sept. 9), before commencing Conference USA play.
"I am excited to have NC State come to play us here in Norfolk, as they are a team who has proved themselves to be one of the top soccer playing teams in the region," exclaimed Hind. "We host local rivals VCU, ECU and Richmond, which are all strong programs that I also have a lot of respect for and will be great challenges."
ODU's conference schedule consists of four home matches against UAB (Sept. 19), Marshall (Oct. 1), Charlotte (Oct. 15) and FIU (Oct. 22). The Monarchs will travel to UTSA (Sept. 16), Middle Tennessee (Sept. 24), Western Kentucky (Oct. 8) and will close out the regular season at Florida Atlantic on Oct. 28.
"Our non-conference games should prepare us well for this year's C-USA schedule which includes six games within our east region and then two crossover games versus UTSA and UAB from the west region," Hind explained.
Old Dominion will play host to Hampton on August 12 for an exhibition match.
"With this year's C-USA tournament including ten teams, it remains an extremely competitive conference to play in and with the new format it is even more essential to finish as high up in the East region of league play as we can to give ourselves the best chance to go far in the conference championship," Hind concluded. "That is undoubtedly our goal."
The 2021 Conference USA Tournament will be held in Boca Raton, Florida from Nov. 1-6.
Last season, Hind led the Monarchs to another Conference USA Tournament appearance, which marked the fifth time in the last six seasons that ODU has qualified. Old Dominion returns all three of last year's All-Conference USA honorees in Ece Turkoglu, Emily Roberts and Ryan Parncutt.
