NORFOLK, Va. – Head coach of the Old Dominion women's golf team Mallory Hetzel announced today the addition of two Division I transfers in Sarah Busey and Federica Torre. Coming to the Monarchs from Santa Clara and Gonzaga, respectively, Busey and Torre bring a combined seven seasons of DI experience to the ODU program.

"Both Federica and Sarah are wonderful students, and they are excited to represent Old Dominion University," Hetzel said. "We expect them to have an immediate impact on our program."

Sarah Busey | Racine, Wisc. | Santa Clara
A graduate transfer from Santa Clara, Busey is a former First Team All-West Coast Conference honoree and leaves the Broncos as the record holder for single-season scoring average. She accomplished both feats as a sophomore in 2018-19, compiling a stroke average of 73.43 over 10 events. Across her four-year career, Busey competed in 30 events, finished top-20 13 times and top-10 eight times. Her career scoring average of 73.43 is fourth-best all-time in program history.

Prior to college, Busey was a Division II state champion as a senior at St. Catherine's High School and also claimed a third-place finish at states as a sophomore. She was first team all-state as a senior and earned spots on the all-state second and third teams as a junior and sophomore, respectively.

"Sarah is a gritty competitor and knows what it takes to be successful in collegiate golf," Hetzel said. "She has a great energy and will be a perfect fit for our team."

Federica Torre | Ronco Scrivia, Italy | Gonzaga
A former WCC rival of Busey, Torre comes to Old Dominion following a three-year stint at Gonzaga. Torre appeared in all six tournaments for the Bulldogs as a junior this past season and helped Gonzaga to its first conference tournament title. The native of Ronco Scrivia, Italy was second on the team in scoring average as both a sophomore (74.61) and freshman (74.27) and was a 2020 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and All-Academic Team honoree.

An accomplished player in Europe before joining Gonzaga, Torre has won marquee events such as the Women's and Men's City of Rome Golden Cup and the Castelconturbia National Trophy as well as the Italian championship at the U18, U16 and U12 levels.

"Federica is a very accomplished player with lots of great international experience," Hetzel said. "She is a hard worker and loves playing team golf."

Busey and Torre join an experienced and accomplished core at ODU. The Monarchs have been represented at each of the past three NCAA Regionals, including team appearances in 2018 and 2019 and an individual appearance by Leah Onosato in 2021.
