Following two lightning delays, ODU wrapped up day one of the C-USA Championship

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Old Dominion women's golf team shot a 7-over 295 and sits in seventh after the opening day of the Conference USA Championship at Lake Jovita Golf Club on Monday. Two Monarchs in Jana Melichova and Leah Onosato are in the top-five on the individual leaderboard after firing a pair of opening round 3-under 69s.

Round two play was suspended midway through due to darkness.

"We are just at the halfway point of the championship and there is a lot of great golf still to be played," ODU head coach Mallory Hetzel said. "The stoppage of play came at a very good time for us. We will regroup tonight and get ready for a big day tomorrow."

Melichova and Onosato's rounds were a season-low for the Monarch squad. Melichova turned in seven birdies, while Onosato compiled eight, which leads the field of 56. The Komamoto, Japan native had just one blemish on her scorecard in round one, a double bogey on the sixth hole.

Behind Melichova and Onosato, senior Noemie Sudron recorded a six-over 78 in round one and sits in a tie for 44th. Freshman Elsie Verhoeven turned in an opening round 79, while Justine Lauer shot an 86.

Round two will resume on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
