NORFOLK, Va. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's National Rankings were released on Wednesday, and four Old Dominion men's tennis players were listed among the nation's best.
"I believe those individual recognitions sum up the good team work we put in all fall," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller. "Having four different players being nationally ranked shows our depth, which should give all of us confidence for what's ahead of us in the spring."
Leading the ranked Monarchs were the doubles tandem of Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal who will enter the spring season ranked 29th nationally. The tandem won the ITA Atlantic Super Regional.
"Luca and Nico are just a great team," said Mueller. "It's the third consecutive year they are nationally ranked, and it's not a surprise anymore. They established themselves as one of the best teams in the country and rightfully so."
In singles, Francois Le Tallec is ranked 64th, while Younes Lalami is 91st. Le Tallec was the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month for October after winning the ITA Atlantic Super Regional title.
"With Francois and Younes, we have two guys that are ranked in singles for the first time," Mueller added. "Their hard work is paying off, and it shows again how well our program is developing players"
The men's team will open its 2022 spring season hosting Penn State inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on January 16 at 1 p.m.
