NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's basketball team hosts crosstown rival Norfolk State for a 2 p.m. tilt on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs are going for a sixth consecutive win on Sunday in their final home game of the nonconference slate. The game is streaming live on CUSA.tv with the radio broadcast airing on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM.

The Starting Five
The Monarchs are winners of their past five games, matching their longest win streak under head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones. During this run, ODU is outscoring opponents by 19 points per game, shooting 41.8 percent from the floor, averaging 14.6 assists and turning over the competition 22.8 times.

ODU's last win came vs. Bowie State, 70-29 on Wednesday. The 41-point margin of victory was ODU's largest since an 85-34 win over Mount St. Mary's in December 2019. The 29 points conceded were the fewest since a 41-26 Monarch win over Presbyterian in November 2014 and the fewest yielded by a C-USA school in over three years.

Ajah Wayne shared the game high with 11 points on Wednesday. The senior now has 1,068 points and is 29th in all-time scoring at Old Dominion. Wayne has 59 double-digit scoring games in her four-year career and needs 18 to pass Sharron Francis on the all-time scoring list at ODU.

The Monarchs are one of the tightest defensive units in the country this year. ODU enters the weekend ranked ninth nationally and first in C-USA in scoring defense (49.3). The Monarchs are 38th in field goal percentage defense (.347) and 60th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.258). ODU is turning teams over 21.44 times per game (31st in DI) while averaging the 28th-most steals per game (11.8) in the country.

No other Division I program has been as successful against the Commonwealth as Old Dominion. The Monarchs are 383-108 (.780) all-time against opponents from inside the state. Milton-Jones is 3-1 against the Commonwealth as the head coach of ODU.

Scouting Norfolk State
Norfolk State enters Sunday with a 3-5 record with a pair of losses coming to Big 10 members Ohio State (86-48) and Indiana (72-42). Most recently, the Spartans downed George Mason on the road, 66-59.

Mahoganie Williams paced NSU with 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and six blocks vs. the Patriots and knocked down two of her three attempts from deep. A former teammate of Kaye Clark at Trinity Valley CC, Williams is 14th in the country in blocks per game (2.62).

As a team, NSU blocks 4.6 shots per contest, good for first in the MEAC and 42nd in Division I. The Spartans also rank inside the top-100 nationally in field goal percentage defense (.364, 81st), steals per game (9.9, 73rd), turnover margin (plus-3.12, 89th) and turnovers forced (19.12, 92nd).

Four Spartans average between 10.3 and 9.0 points per game. Camille Downs leads all at 10.3 per game. Tatiana Jones leads NSU with 6.4 rebounds per game while chipping in 9.6 points an outing.

The Series
These two crosstown rivals are meeting for the 26th time on Sunday. ODU holds a commanding 22-3 edge over the Spartans and has won each of the last 13.

The two sides last met on Nov. 9, 2018 in a 69-53 Monarch win inside Chartway Arena. Five current Monarchs played in that game. Ajah Wayne posted a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double with five assists and three steals. Maggie Robinson added 11 points and eight boards, and Aziah Hudson tallied nine points and two assists off the bench.
