KATY, TEXAS – The Old Dominion women's basketball team plays three games in three days at the Van Chancellor Classic this Friday through Sunday. The Monarchs take on Saint Joseph's on Friday at noon, Texas Tech on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Stetson on Sunday at noon (all times eastern).
 
The Starting Five
Old Dominion enters Friday with 1,099 wins and is looking to become just the eighth Division I program to win 1,100 games.
 
The Monarchs are playing in the Van Chancellor Classic, named for Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor. Chancellor helped guide the Houston Comets to the first four WNBA titles. Additionally, Chancellor won over 400 games as the head women's basketball coach at Ole Miss and made the 2008 Final Four with LSU.
 
Ajah Wayne enters Friday with 997 career points and is poised to become the 34th member of the 1,000-point club at Old Dominion. The Monarchs also boast 15 1,500-point scorers, and six 2,000-point scorers, including career scoring record holder Anne Donovan and her 2,719 points.
 
ODU is coming off a 71-48 loss at VCU on Sunday. The Monarchs shot 37.3-percent from the floor and were 0-for-12 from 3-point range in the loss.
 
Old Dominion is playing an Atlantic 10 opponent for the third game in a row. The Monarchs previously played George Washington on Nov. 18 and VCU on Nov. 21.
 
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks enter Friday on a three-game losing streak, having dropped contests with Drexel (63-55), Monmouth (57-45) and Villanova (55-39). Saint Joseph's won its opener over Maryland Eastern Shore by an 84-49 margin.
 
SJU owns a top-100 scoring defense nationally, limiting opponents to 56.0 points per game, good for 77th in DI. Additionally, the Hawks are limiting opponents to a .246 mark from 3-point range, which is 71st in the nation.
 
Kaliah Henderson leads Saint Joseph's in scoring at 11.0 points per game and is one of six Hawks to average at least five points per game. Freshman Mackenzie  Smith scores six points a game and is shooting .571 (4-of-7) from long range.
 
Katie Jekot leads the team with 4.0 assists per game and is third in the A10 with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. Additionally, the graduate student from Enola, Pennsylvania is sixth in the conference with 2.3 steals per game.
 
Scouting Texas Tech
The Red Raiders bring a perfect 4-0 record into the Van Chancellor Classic and play Ball State on Friday afternoon. Texas Tech owns wins over Southeastern Louisiana (67-45), Weber State (62-44), Lamar (72-68) and Texas State (83-57).
 
TTU boasts four double-digit scorers including leading scorer Rhyle McKinney (16.3) and Vivian Gray (16.0). McKinney is shooting .431 from the floor and is 9-of-18 from 3-point range. Taylah Thomas nearly averages a double-double for the Red Raiders with 10.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
 
The Red Raiders are 49th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 53.5 points per game, and are 19th in field goal percentage defense (.316). TTU averages 42.8 rebounds per game, 60th in DI, and own a plus-10.8 margin on the boards (39th nationally).
 
Scouting Stetson
The Hatters are 2-2 on the season and play UL Monroe (Friday) and Saint Joseph's (Saturday) before squaring off with the Monarchs.
 
Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads Stetson with 18.3 points per game and hit the game-winning free throws in the Hatters' 57-55 win over Manhattan on Saturday. Joining Wazeerud-Din in double figures on the season is Tatiana Streun, who averages 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting .600 from the field.
 
Stetson owns the best scoring defense in the ASUN, limiting opponents to 51.0 points per game and are top-45 in the country with a .769 mark from the foul line.
 
The Series
Old Dominion is 5-1 all-time against Saint Joseph's, 2-1 against Texas Tech and 1-0 against Stetson.
