Men's Soccer Concludes Season with 3-2 Victory Over South Carolina

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The Old Dominion men's soccer team concluded its season on Friday night against South Carolina, with a 3-2 victory.  

South Carolina (5-9-2, 1-5-2 C-USA) scored first in the 24th minute of play as Kyle Gurrieri connected with Brian Banahan to put the Gamecocks up 1-0. 

ODU (3-9-2, 1-6-2 C-USA) responded quickly by getting on the board in the 33rd minute as Eliot Goldthorp found Eli Carr to equalize the match.  

The Gamecocks scored immediately following halftime. Peter Clement was able to send a shot into the upper right corner of the goal in the 49th minute to take the lead back from ODU. 

Goldthorp tied the game at 2-2, capitalizing on an awarded penalty kick in the 50th minute after a handball was called against South Carolina. This was his fourth goal of the season, tying him with Karan Mandair for team stats.  

ODU was able to score the game winning goal as Carr sent the ball into the net in the 54th minute for his second goal of the night and for the season.  

Head coach Alan Dawson said, "I am very proud of the team tonight as they deserved the win in a hard fought Conference USA road game."
