TULSA, Okla. - Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal of the Old Dominion men's tennis team concluded action in the ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Center on Tulsa's campus, as well as the Case Tennis Center in LaFortune Park.
"Luca and Nicola had a solid showing at the ITA All-American Championships," said ODU associate head coach Othmane Lalami. "Nicola went 1-1 in singles beating the No. 59 ranked player from Florida, Joshua Goodger. Luca had two close matches, losing in main draw to Alex Kotzen, Columbia's number one player, who went on and made the quarterfinals."
In the Round of 64 of the Singles Main Draw, Maldoner fell to No. 110 Alex Kotzen of Columbia 7-5, 2-6, 1-6. In the Main Draw Consolation, Maldoner dropped a 4-6, 2-6 match against No. 115 Chris Rodesch of Virginia.
Vidal dropped his first round match of the Qualifying Draw to Bogdan Pavel of UCF (2-6, 2-6), but came back to take down Florida's No. 59 Joshua Goodger by a 6-4, 6-2 score in the Qualifying Consolation Draw.
"All in all, we know that the ITA All-American Championships is a top notch tournament with the best players in the country. It was a great experience, very enriching, and we will use this and learn and improve from it," Lalami said.
In the Round of 32 of the Doubles Main Draw, No. 18 nationally ranked Maldoner/Vidal fell to Baylor's No. 27 Sven Lah/Finn Bass (5-7, 1-6).
"In doubles, we honestly performed at a high level, very close in both matches, showing a lot of positive things that will continue to make Luca and Nicola a great team," concluded Lalami.
