Volleyball Hosts Charlotte for First Home C-USA Series

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion volleyball team serves host to Charlotte this Friday and Saturday for the first Conference USA home series of the season. Both matches start at 6 p.m. and are streaming live on CUSA.tv.
 
About ODU
The Monarchs split a pair of nonconference home matches with UAB last Friday and Saturday. On Friday, ODU rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to win in five sets. In that match, the Monarchs set the program single-match record for team blocks (19), and Olivia De Jesus tallied a team-record 13 blocks. Old Dominion was strong at the net once more in Saturday's 3-1 loss, logging 15 team blocks.
 
De Jesus added eight more blocks in the second game and finished the two matches with 2.33 blocks per set, earning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors in the progress.
 
For the season, the Monarchs rank fourth in the conference and 59th nationally with 2.41 team blocks per set. De Jesus is fourth in C-USA and 62nd nationally with 1.23 blocks per set this year, and Hailey Duncan ranks seventh in the conference in the same category. Additionally, Duncan has the fifth-best hitting percentage (.384) in C-USA.
 
About Charlotte
The 49ers are coming off a series sweep of Florida Atlantic last weekend. Emani' Foster paced Charlotte in kills in both matches and averaged 5.29 per set over the two matches with the Owls. Conference USA's Freshman of the Year in the spring, Foster ranks third in the conference and 22nd in the nation with 4.38 kills per set this season.
 
Annika Wetterstrom leads the 49ers in assists with 355 (6.23 per set). Sophie Whalen is the team's digs leader (234, 4.18 per set) and Amani McArthur paces the team with 82 total blocks (1.46 per set).
 
Charlotte turned in a 13-5 overall mark in the spring season, going 9-3 in C-USA matches and finishing second in the East. The 49ers were picked to repeat as East Division runners-up this season.

Charlotte took both matches on its home court in the spring.
 
What's Next
ODU returns to the road for two matches at Marshall on Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16.
 
Mask Policy
A mask mandate is currently in effect for all indoor spaces on the campus of Old Dominion University, including the ODU Volleyball Center. All patrons are required to wear a face mask that covers both the mouth and nose fully at all times while in the ODU Volleyball Center, except while eating or drinking. If an individual enters the facility without a mask, one will be provided.

New this year, ticket vouchers come with the flexibility for customers to use them across several of ODU's ticketed sports, including men's and women's soccer, volleyball and baseball. Purchase now and vouchers remain valid through the end of the home baseball schedule in mid-May. Each year, these four programs account for approximately 60 combined home events that will be accessible with the ticket vouchers.

Each voucher book contains 25 tickets and is priced at $50, which is a 60 percent savings off the single-game ticket price. Vouchers are good for any regular season home game played at the ODU Soccer Complex, Volleyball Center or Bud Metheny Baseball Stadium, and can be presented at the gate for admission.
