DALLAS – Jana Melichova of the Old Dominion women's golf team was named Co-Golfer of the Week by Conference USA, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon. The senior from Pikovice, Czech Republic put together a record-setting performance at the Evie Odom Invitational.
Melichova broke the program's 18-hole gross scoring record with a final-round 65 on Tuesday. She owned the previous record as well, shooting 66 (-5) as a freshman in the Golfweek Program Challenge. At 5-under-par, Melichova tied her own record for 18-hole score in relation to par.
Melichova bettered her score across all three rounds and finished tied for third at 4-under 206. She opened with a 1-over 71 on Sunday before following up with an even-par 70 on Monday. Melichova finished at or under par in eight of her 12 rounds this fall. For the event, she was second in par-5 scoring (-4) and was tied for fifth with 11 birdies.
An all-conference third team selection in the spring, Melichova finished in the top-five in three of ODU's four events in the fall. Additionally, she has placed in the top-10 in five-consecutive tournaments, the most top-10s in a row by a Monarch since Maggie Simmermacher between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The weekly recognition is the third in Melichova's four-year career.
