NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team fell 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to ECU in Greenville, North Carolina in a non-conference match.
Head coach Angie Hind said, " We just weren't ourselves today, credit to ECU they took full advantage of the sluggish start we had and got the early goal. From then we had to fight our way back into the game and although we caused some problem and made some changes we just didn't have enough and ultimately came up short. "
ECU (5-7-1, 0-2-1 American) scored early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Brooke Burzynski recorded her first goal of the season, assisted by Morgan Dewey and Samantha Moxie.
ODU (8-3-0, 4-0-0 C-USA) was able to keep the Pirate offense at bay for the remainder of the match. The Monarchs reduced the number of scoring opportunities in the second half from three shots to one and from two corner kicks to none.
Old Dominion led the match in shots (12-4) and corner kicks (3-2). Ece Turkoglu, Riley Kennett, and Emily Garrick all recorded two shots each.
"While it doesn't hurt us being a non-conference game it is a timely reminder that we need to be up for every moment in every game to win. We will recover and I have no doubt this team will be ready to respond on Friday, " Hind said.
The Monarchs will take flight to Bowling Green, Kentucky to take on WKU on Friday, October 8 at 7 p.m. ET.
