BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Old Dominion volleyball team lost 3-0 at No. 18 WKU in a Conference USA match on Thursday night. Alessia Sgherza paced the Monarchs (11-12, 3-6 C-USA) with seven kills.
 
The Hilltoppers (21-1, 9-0) hit .667 in a 25-13 first-set win. Sgherza finished off a dish from Teresa Atilano for the first point of the set, but WKU scored the next four and never looked back.
 
Old Dominion notched 12 kills on a .188 hitting percentage in a 25-16 loss in the second set, its best attacking performance of the night. Myah Conway scored four of her six kills in the second set, doing so on nine total attempts with just one error (.333). The Monarchs stayed within striking distance early on in the set and were down only three at 12-9 before the hosts rattled off six unanswered.
 
WKU closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the third set. ODU took the first point of the set, the two sides were tied 4-4 before a 6-0 Hilltopper run. The Monarchs scored three unanswered to pull to withing five at 15-10, but WKU answered with another 6-0 run.
 
Hailey Duncan and Atilano shared the team high with three blocks. Atilano added 17 assists, four digs and one service ace. Jordan Daniel notched six digs to lead the team and had an ace as well.
 
Lauren Matthews had a match-high 13 kills for WKU and added four blocks as well.
 
The two sides rematch on Friday at 7 p.m.
