NORFOLK, Va. - Delphine Le Jeune of the Old Dominion field hockey team was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Le Jeune played a critical role in No. 15 ODU's two wins last week, as the Belgium-native had the assist on the Monarchs first goal against Temple. Le Jeune then scored a goal against the Owls in a 2-0 shutout win. Le Jeune and ODU's defense has now compiled four shutouts this season, as well as nine games of allowing just one goal or less, including a 2-1 victory over William & Mary on Sunday.
Le Jeune ranks first on the squad for assists (6) and second on the team for goals (6) and points (18). The Monarchs have won four games in a row, in addition to nine of their last 10 matches. ODU ended the regular season with an 8-1 record when playing at home.
Le Jeune and the Monarchs will close out the regular season on Friday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m., when the Monarchs travel to Lynchburg to take on No. 9 nationally ranked Liberty.
