Men’s Soccer Competes With No. 14 FIU, Falls 3-2

MIAMI, Florida - The Old Dominion men's soccer team fell 3-2 against No. 14 FIU on Friday night in Miami, Florida.  

FIU (10-1-2, 5-0-1 C-USA) scored first in the 15th minute with Mauro Bravo connected with Stephen Afrifa to find the net.  

The Panther's capitalized on a free kick awarded to them in the 32nd minute. Kareem Riley scored his fifth goal of the season and the second of the night. 

FIU scored for the last time in the 34th minute as Carlos Scheckermann found the goal off a pass by Julian Hodek.  

Old Dominion (2-8-1, 0-5-1 C-USA) wasted little time in the second half, earning their first goal in the 48th minute as Ty Arico got his first goal of the season. 

Karan Mandair capitalized on an awarded penalty kick in the 87th minute to give the Monarchs their final goal of the match.  

Eliot Goldthorp tied his season high in shots (four), while Arico had a season-high shots.  

ODU Head coach Alan Dawson said, "We showed a lot of courage in the second half after falling behind to a very good FIU team. We need to bring that energy from the opening whistle every game we play".  

The Monarchs will remain on the road, taking on Delaware on Wednesday night in Newark before returning to the ODU Soccer Complex on Sunday to take on UAB.
