Women’s Tennis Off to Charlottesville for ITA Super Regional

NORFOLK, Va. – Six members of the Old Dominion women's tennis team are set to compete in the ITA Atlantic Super Regional on October 22-25 held in Charlottesville at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort. The tournament will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams vying for the regional titles. ODU will have a total of six singles players and three doubles tandems competing this weekend.
 
In singles, No. 36 nationally ranked Yuliia Starodubtseva received the two seed, while teammate No. 77 Tatsiana Sasnouskaya will be the five seed. Also competing in singles for the Monarchs are No. 76 Marina Alcaide, Alesya Yakubovich, Sofia Johnson and Alexandra Viktorovich.
 
In doubles, No. 57 Starodubtseva/Sasnouskaya earned the one seed. Johnson/Yakubovich and Alcaide/Viktorovich will also pair up to represent Old Dominion in doubles.

Joining Old Dominion are players from George Washington, Georgetown, James Madison, Maryland, Penn State, VCU, West Virginia and Virginia.
 
For the first time, the ITA's regional championships were split with qualifying matches happening at different regional sites earlier this month. Sixteen singles players and eight doubles teams earned spots in those field through qualifying. The remaining 16 singles players and eight doubles teams earned direct entry into this week's Super Regional by virtue of their ITA and/or UTR ranking.

The regional champions and finalists will earn invitations to compete at the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships being held on November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

Friday:

  • Round of 16 doubles, eight game pro set starting at 9:00 a.m.
  • Round of 32 singles, two out of three sets starting at 11:30 a.m.
  • Singles back draw

Saturday:

  • Round of 16 singles, two out of three sets starting at 8:30 a.m.
  • Quarterfinals singles, two out of three sets starting at 12:00 p.m.
  • Quarterfinal doubles, eight game pro set at 3:00 p.m.

Sunday:

  • Semifinals singles, two out of three sets starting 10:00 a.m.
  • Semifinals doubles, two out of three sets with 10-point breaker not before 1:00 p.m.

Monday:

  • Finals singles, two out of three sets starting at 10:00 a.m.
  • Finals doubles, two out of three sets with 10-point breaker not before 1:00 p.m.
