Tournament Central: Day Two Recap of the ITA Men’s Tennis Atlantic Super Regional at ODU

NORFOLK, Va. – The second day of the ITA Men's Tennis Atlantic Super Regional at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center is in the books as the doubles title stage is set, while the semifinals and final in singles will be played out tomorrow beginning with the singles semifinals at 9:00 a.m. Admission is free to the general public.
 
In doubles, Luca Maldoner/Nicola Vidal (ODU) and Ryan Goetz/Iñaki Montes de la Torre (UVA) advanced to tomorrow's final, as well as punched their tickets to the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships being held on November 5-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
 
Advancing to the semifinals in singles are Francois Le Tallec (ODU), von der Schulenburg (UVA), Charles Bertimon (VCU) and Montes de la Torre (UVA). Le Tallec will square off against No. 34 nationally ranked/No. 1 regionally seeded von der Schulenburg tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for the right to clinch a spot to the National Fall Championships next month. Bertimon and Montes de la Torre will also begin their semifinal match tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

Day One Recap:
Day one started with doubles in the morning as eight total matches took place. Punching their tickets to tomorrow's quarterfinal action were Luca Maldoner/Nicola Vidal (ODU), Maxence Bertimon/Charles Bertimon (VCU), William Karpinski/Holden Koons (JMU), Jeffrey von der Schulenburg/Bar Botzer (UVA), Joaquim Almeida/Matisse Bobichon (VCU), Marin Delmas/Louis Gorregues (Temple) and Ryan Goetz/Iñaki Montes de la Torre (UVA).
 
After the two rounds of singles today, eight players have advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinal round: Francois Le Tallec (ODU), von der Schulenburg (UVA), Delmas (Temple), George Davis (W&M), Leo Raquin (Temple), Charles Bertimon (VCU), Inigo Torre Martin (VCU) and Montes de la Torre (UVA).

Joining members of the Old Dominion squad this weekend are student-athletes from, Virginia, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Liberty, VCU, Temple, William & Mary, Radford, James Madison and Delaware.
 
For the first time, the ITA's regional championships were split with qualifying matches happening at different regional sites earlier this month. Sixteen singles players and eight doubles teams earned spots in those field through qualifying. The remaining 16 singles players and eight doubles teams earned direct entry into this week's Super Regional by virtue of their ITA and/or UTR ranking.

The regional champions and finalists earn invitations to compete at the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships being held on November 5-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
