NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team fell 2-0 on Friday night to No. 6 ranked Kentucky at the ODU Soccer Complex.

The first 45 minutes proved to be a close match between the Monarchs and the Wildcats with the two teams tied for shots (4-4) and Kentucky leading in corner kicks (3-1). ODU and UK went into halftime scoreless.

Kentucky (8-1-3, 2-0-3 C-USA) found the net in the 51st minute. Luis Grassow was able to get a head onto a ball provided by Robert Screen.

Screen would get his second assist of the night in the 73rd minute as he played a cross to Martin Soereide who found Enzo Mauriz in the 18-yard box, putting Kentucky ahead by two.

Old Dominion (2-7-1, 0-4-1 C-USA) was led by Eliot Goldthorp who recorded two shots, as well as four other Monarch attackers getting one shot each. Djibril Doumbia played all 90 minutes for the Monarchs making four saves on 12 shots faced.

ODU Head coach Alan Dawson said, "I thought we had a very good first half, very even game. I thought Kentucky turned it up a notch in the second half and we did not respond well to that. Really disappointed. We gave a bad goal away and once you concede and go behind against a really organized, good Kentucky side, it's very difficult to get back in the game".

The Monarchs will take flight to match up against FIU in Miami, Florida on Friday at 7 p.m.
