Fransson Ties for Third at Georgia State Invitational

DULUTH, Ga. – Gustav Fransson of the Old Dominion men's golf team shot a final-round 5-under 67 on Tuesday to finish tied for third at the Georgia State Invitational with a 54-hole total of 208 (-8). The top-five finish is the first of the season for Fransson and the fifth of his collegiate career.
 
A senior from Umea, Sweden, Fransson matched his low round of the season with Tuesday's 67 on the par-72, 6,706-yard Berkeley Hills Country Club. He tallied four birdies and an eagle in the final round and finished the two-day event with 11 total birdies and a pair of eagles. In addition to being tied for first in the field of 87 with those two eagles, Fransson also shared the lowest score on the course's par-5 holes, finishing them at 8-under.
 
Fransson shot par or better in all three rounds, carding an even-par 72 in the first round and a 2-under 69 in the second. Six of his nine rounds this season have been at or below par.
 
Rasmus Konradsson turned in his best 54-hole score of the season, finishing tied for 12th at 2-under 214. Konradsson opened play with a 71 (-1) in Monday's first round before carding a 73 in the afternoon. The native of Sundsvall, Sweden finished the tournament with two birdies over his last three holes en route to a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. For the tournament, Konradsson notched nine birdies and one eagle and was 3-under on Berkeley Hill's par-5 holes.
 
As a team, the Monarchs improved their score each round and finished tied for seventh at 867 (+3). ODU shot a collective 2-under 286 on Tuesday. Old Dominion tallied 42 total birdies and three eagles across all three rounds.
 
Jakob Chicoyne made his collegiate debut for the Monarchs and placed in a tie for 51st at 223. He shot a 78 in his first competitive round on Monday morning but followed with a 1-under 71 in the second round of the day. The native of Calgary, Alberta then fired a 74 on Tuesday.
 
Jakob Henriksson (226, T62) and Filip Wetterqvist (227, T66) rounded out ODU's scoring five.
 
Wright State won the team competition with an 18-under-par mark of 846, 10 strokes better than runner-up Lafayette. Oakland's Thomas Giroux birdied the final two holes on Tuesday to finish at 12-under 204 and take home individual medalist honors. Tobias Jonsson of Mercer finished second two shots behind.
 
The Monarchs conclude their fall season with the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell's Point, North Carolina. The 11th installment of ODU's annual fall event runs Sunday, Oct. 24 through Tuesday, Oct. 26.
