DALLAS – Kira Smith of the Old Dominion volleyball team was named Conference USA's Freshman of the Week, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.

Smith led the Monarchs in kills over the weekend, averaging 4.50 per set as ODU split two home matches with Charlotte. The native of San Diego also led Old Dominion with 64 total attempts and posted a .297 hitting percentage.

She set the team high in kills in both matches, including a personal-best 15 in Saturday's 3-0 win over the 49ers. Smith hit .344 in that match and chipped in eight digs and three blocks. She averaged 2.17 digs per set across both matches.

Three of Smith's 15 kills on Saturday came as part of the decisive 5-0 ODU run to end the first set. Trailing 24-21, the Monarchs scored the next five points to take the opener 26-24. Old Dominion then went on to win the next two sets 25-19 and 25-22.

The weekly honor is the first this season for Smith, who becomes the second Monarch to garner C-USA Freshman of the Week recognition this year. Myah Conway was also named freshman of the week on Sept. 20.
