Volleyball Hosts UAB for Nonconference Series this Friday, Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion volleyball team hosts UAB for a pair of nonconference matches this Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon. While both programs are members of Conference USA, these two matches will not count in the conference standings. Both matches are streaming live on CUSA.tv.
 
About ODU
The Monarchs split a pair of matches at Florida Atlantic last week. ODU dropped its C-USA opener 3-0 before bouncing back with a 3-1 result the following day. Alessia Sgherza notched 15 kills in Saturday's win, which is tied for the most by a Monarch this season. Madeline Rudd added 10 kills in that match, her fourth outing with double-digit kills this season.
 
Hailey Duncan ranks third in C-USA and 42nd nationally with a .383 hitting percentage. She has four matches with a hitting percentage better than .500 this year. The middle blocker is also first on the team in total blocks (51) and seventh in the conference with 1.04 blocks per set. Olivia De Jesus is right behind her with 1.03 blocks per set and has the fifth-most service aces (18) in the conference.
 
Teresa Atilano handed out 37 assists in the win over the Owls and is currently fourth in C-USA with 9.22 assists per set.
 
About UAB
UAB opened conference play with a two-match sweep of Southern Miss last Friday and Saturday. Fernanda Maida, a First Team All-Conference USA performer in the spring, totaled 38 kills across those two matches and is second-best in C-USA with 4.88 kills per set. The junior from Cochabamba, Bolivia also ranks fourth in Conference USA with 0.40 aces per set.
 
Lidya Canturk and Grace Koper both average better than 4.45 assists per set with Canturk leading the way at 5.48. Erin Powers is the Blazers' digs leader with 147, and three UAB players have between 21 and 25 total blocks, led by Tatijana Fucka's 25.
 
UAB went 8-8 with a 7-5 conference mark in the spring and finished third in the West Division, qualifying for the C-USA Tournament. The Blazers were picked to finish fourth in the West this season.
 
What's Next
The Monarchs host Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9. Both matches start at 6 p.m.
 
Mask Policy
A mask mandate is currently in effect for all indoor spaces on the campus of Old Dominion University, including the ODU Volleyball Center. All patrons are required to wear a face mask that covers both the mouth and nose fully at all times while in the ODU Volleyball Center, except while eating or drinking. If an individual enters the facility without a mask, one will be provided.

New this year, ticket vouchers come with the flexibility for customers to use them across several of ODU's ticketed sports, including men's and women's soccer, volleyball and baseball. Purchase now and vouchers remain valid through the end of the home baseball schedule in mid-May. Each year, these four programs account for approximately 60 combined home events that will be accessible with the ticket vouchers.

Each voucher book contains 25 tickets and is priced at $50, which is a 60 percent savings off the single-game ticket price. Vouchers are good for any regular season home game played at the ODU Soccer Complex, Volleyball Center or Bud Metheny Baseball Stadium, and can be presented at the gate for admission.
