BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida on Saturday night.

"It wasn't a good night for the Monarchs. We need to manage games better and going down 1-0 after five minutes means you are chasing the game," said head coach Alan Dawson.

FAU (5-1-1, 1-0-1 C-USA) scored an early goal to get control of the game. Joey Alastuey deflected an incoming ball in the fourth minute of the game to put FAU up 1-0.

ODU held off FAU for the remainder of the first half. Djibril Doumbia recorded four saves in the first 45 minutes.

Florida Atlantic wasted little time in the second half finding the net again. Filip Jauk scored the second goal off of a cross from Luis Fidalgo giving FAU a 2-0 lead.

The Owls scored an insurance goal in the 71st minute of the game. Davide Romeo found the left corner of the net off of a cross by Daniel Skistad.

ODU (2-4-1, 0-1-1 C-USA) had four shots, two on goal, three corner kicks, and six saves on 13 shots faced. Josh Thacker led the Monarchs with three shots, two on goal.

"We will have to rally quickly as we face the national champions Marshall at home next Sunday," Dawson said.

Old Dominion will return to the ODU Soccer Complex to play Marshall on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
