NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 18 nationally ranked Old Dominion field hockey team will travel to No. 24 James Madison on Friday, Sept. 3 for a 5 p.m. match at the JMU Field Hockey Complex. Friday's game will stream on FloSports, which requires a paid subscription.

The Monarchs are most recently coming off a 3-2 overtime victory over American, as Meghan Smart, Delphine Le Jeune and Marlon de Bruijne each scored a goal. Cam MacGillivray made five saves in goal for Old Dominion.

"We need to be sharp from the first minute on Friday," explained Le Jeune, who also had an assist against American. "We need to play our own game, because we know that JMU will be ready."

Friday will mark the 68th all-time meeting between these two schools, as Old Dominion leads the series, 54-13.

"This will be our first away game, so throughout this week we have been working hard and trying to fix the little things in order to come out on top against JMU," said ODU midfielder Rina Tsioles.

James Madison enters Friday's contest with a 2-0 record after taking down Bucknell and Saint Francis, each by a 3-0 score. The Dukes were selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association championship. JMU went 6-2 with a 5-0 mark in CAA play during the 2020-21 spring season. James Madison returns five All-CAA honorees from last season, including reigning CAA Player of the Year Eveline Zwager, who was named the CAA Player of the Week on Tuesday.

"I think our team has great potential going forward as a young group, but we still have to learn some lessons," ODU head coach Andrew Griffiths stated.
