FAIRFAX, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team walked away with a 2-1 win over George Mason on Tuesday night in Fairfax, Virginia.
Alan Dawson said, "We battled early on and set the tone in the first half with two very good goals. We had opportunities to put the game out of reach but couldn't punch it in."
ODU (2-2-0) was able to get an early lead scoring in the 10th minute of the game. Eli Carr had a run down the right side of the field, finding Owen Ruddy in the 18 yard-box to finish in the center of the net.
The Monarchs increased their lead in the 39th minute as Eliot Goldthorp took a free-kick about 30 yards out, dropping a ball in the center of the box for Josh Thacker to redirect with a header.
George Mason (1-3-1) kept pressure on ODU getting a goal off of a penalty kick in the last two minutes of the match.
Dawson continued on saying, "The late penalty against us was very questionable but we closed the game out despite conceding.
Old Dominion will return to the ODU Soccer Complex on Saturday night to play their first conference game against Costal Carolina at 7 p.m.
