NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University sailing team opened the season with a third-place finish at the Riley Cup in Norfolk. ODU also competed in the Navy Women's and Laser South Regattas.
At the Riley Cup, the Division A team of Parker Purrington and Katherine Barton placed fourth. The duo had eight top-five finishes out of the nine total races and a pair of race wins.
The Division B squad of Rider Odom, Isabelle Kanach and Jefferson Elkin also finished fourth. The trio won one race and had six top-five finishes.
Georgetown came in first-place, while SUNY Maritime was second just in front of ODU.
ODU placed seventh at the Navy women's Regatta. The Division A team of Elizabeth Gildea and Makalynne Dyer took sixth in the division. The Division B squad of Megan Geith and Allison Volk placed seventh in the division.
