NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team will begin their season on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. against East Carolina at the ODU Soccer Complex. Thursday night's match will stream on CUSA.TV.
"We have now had 15 days together of pre-season and I don't think we as a staff can have asked for any more than we have gotten from the squad. They have been tremendously focused and every day brought a desire and intensity to the sessions which has helped us get ready."
The Monarch 2021 spring season produced a 4-5-2 overall record. ODU worked their way into the Conference USA Tournament Quarterfinals, where it fell short against Rice University. Old Dominion will carry 11 seniors on its roster this season including their top three scorers, Megan Watts, Morgan Hall, and Ece Turkoglu.
Hind spoke on the team's growth since the spring saying, "I think we are a better team than the spring, and I think we have more depth than ever before. But every year we grow and improve - the important thing for this ODU team now is to show our development mentally in our ability to turn moments into goals and opportunities into results. Together we understand that, and know that has to be our focus"
ECU played through the spring 2021 season with the Pirates finishing 3-6-2, making it through to the AAC Tournament, but coming up short in the semifinals. The Pirates will bring back three of their top five scorers: Tori Riggs, Morgan Dewey, and Carsen Parker.
"To start the season tomorrow night against ECU will, as always, be a great test. We have played them every year I have been here and every game is a great one. I have a lot of respect for them and their staff and know we will be up against a tough opponent. But I think we are confident in each other and trust the hard work our players have put in together this summer. It's a short preseason to be ready but as a staff we like a lot of what our team has shown in practice and now we focus on finding a way together to win our first game of the season."
The gate on 43rd Street will open 60 minutes prior to kickoff. Fans can park in Lot 43.
