NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Carter Morgan of the Old Dominion men's golf team has been named Second Team All-State by VaSID, the organization announced on Thursday.
Morgan played in all six events for the Monarchs and was the team leader in stroke average (72.5) this past season. He co-medaled at the Golfweek Spring Invitational with a score of 13-under-par 203, which matched his lowest 54-hole score at ODU. The native of Tappahannock, Virginia shot a 65 (-7) in the third round of the event to surge up the leaderboard and into a two-way tie with No. 36-ranked Pontus Nyholm of Campbell. Morgan was then recognized as the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week for his co-medalist result. Morgan added another top-10 finish at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate thanks in part to another push in the final round. Morgan often saved his best for last during the spring 2021 season and carded his lowest score of a tournament in the final round five times.
Morgan receives all-state distinctions from VaSID for the first time as a Monarch and the second time in his career. He was also named second team college division as a sophomore at Virginia Wesleyan in 2018.
Liberty took home two of three major honors from VaSID. Kieran Vincent was named Golfer of the Year, and Jeff Thomas was the Coach of the Year. Virginia's George Duangmanee was voted VaSID Rookie of the Year.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
