TUCSON, Ariz. – Old Dominion University baseball second baseman Carter Trice was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Trice, a native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, led the Monarchs this season with a .355 batting average and led all Conference USA freshman in batting average, hits (83) and doubles (17), and was second among league rookies in runs scored (57), homers (14) and total bases.
The C-USA Freshman of the Year, Trice started and played in 58 games this season, with 54 of his starts coming at second base. He started four games at third base in the beginning of the season.
Trice had 24 multi-hit games on the year, including six three-hit games, and was a season-best 5-for-6 with a pair of homers and five RBIs in a 15-7 win at Marshall.
Trice helped the Monarchs to a 44-16 mark this season and ODU's first Conference USA Championship and first conference championship since 1995.
ODU was the overall No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the No. 1 seed in the Columbia Regional. In the Regional, Trice had a pair of multi-hit games, and was named to the All-Regional Team.
