NORFOLK, Va. - Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal of the Old Dominion men's tennis team were named to the 2021 VaSID All-State Doubles Second Team on Wednesday.
Maldoner/Vidal ended the season nationally ranked No. 76, which was the second highest ranked tandem in the league and earned them a spot on the All-Conference USA Doubles First Team. At one point this year, Maldoner/Vidal were ranked as high as No. 25 by the ITA. This season they went 11-8 overall, 4-1 at home and picked up three nationally ranked wins over No. 26 Murgett/Maclean (Auburn), No. 61 Chrysostom/Ribeiro (Virginia Tech) and No. 66 Huynh/Maughan (Georgia State). Maldoner/Vidal compiled six wins over top 75 ranked teams. These two were also named to the all-league doubles first team last year.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
