NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University senior outfielder Kyle Battle received All-American distinctions from a fourth publication this spring on Monday, when D1Baseball named him a Third Team All-American. Battle – who has also been recognized by ABCA/Rawlings, Baseball America and the NCBWA – becomes just the third Monarch to receive All-American accolades from four separate outlets, joining Tim Hummel and Anthony Shawler.
The native of Glen Allen, Virginia, Battle was the Conference USA leader and is ranked 16th nationally with 18 home runs. Fourteen of those 18 homers came against C-USA competition. Additionally, Battle led off the ODU first inning with a home run five times this season, and the Monarchs won all five of those games. Battle set a school record with 56 walks this season, which led the conference and is tied for third nationally. He was top-three in C-USA and is eighth in the nation with 68 runs scored and is tied for 25th in Division I with 61 runs driven in.
For the season, Battle posted a .319 average with 66 hits, including 15 doubles, in 59 games. He had 19 multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit outings. He also drove in multiple runs in 16 games, including the Conference USA Championship game. In that game, Battle cranked a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Monarchs a 7-5 lead.
