NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Leah Onosato of the Old Dominion women's golf team is set to compete as an individual at the upcoming NCAA Columbus Regional, which runs May 10-12 at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
A Second Team All-Conference USA performer and a member of the all-tournament team at the C-USA Championship, Onosato received an at-large bid to the regional tournament and is the top seed among the six players competing as individuals in the field.
Onosato owns a team-best stroke average of 73.5 across 16 rounds this season and is currently ranked 105th nationally by Golfstat. The native of Kumamoto, Japan has notched a trio of top-10 results this season, including a runner-up finish at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
Onosato is making her second appearance at an NCAA Regional in as many opportunities. She finished in a tie for 69th at the Cle Elum Regional as a freshman in 2019, and the 2020 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each of the four regional sites includes 18 teams and six individuals. The top six teams (24 teams total) and the low three individuals (12 individuals total) not on an advancing team from each regional site advance to the national championship held May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 2021 championship is hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds, and the final three days will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
