SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The No. 22 Old Dominion baseball team heads to the Lone Star State for a four-game conference set with UTSA. The series begins Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m. ET. The matchup continues with a twinbill on Saturday, May 8 at 3 p.m. ET and concludes Sunday, May 9 at 2 p.m. ET.

The Monarchs (31-11, 17-7 C-USA) are coming off a series win over No. 15 Charlotte at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex last weekend. ODU won 3-of-4 games against the 49ers. Ryne Moore is coming off C-USA Pitcher of the Week laurels after tossing a complete game shutout over No. 15 Charlotte in the Monarchs' series finale on Sunday. Against the 49ers, the Limerick, Pennsylvania native fanned seven batters, allowing just four hits in 7.0 innings of work.
On the road, the Monarchs boast a 12-4 mark. They own the fifth-best road mark in NCAA DI baseball. ODU checked into six national polls this week. NCBWA (#19), USA Today (#20), Baseball America (#20), Perfect Game (#20), D1 Baseball (#22), Collegiate Baseball (#29). Additionally, ODU's RPI is at 14 following its second series with Charlotte. The 49ers are just one game ahead of the Monarchs in the C-USA East standings.
Last time in San Antonio, ODU took down the Roadrunners, winning 2-of-3 games in 2019.
ODU's 74 home runs and slugging percentage (.540) this season checks in at No. 2 in the nation. Around the league, ODU paces the way in on base percentage (.402), RBIs (311), runs (331), triples (17), home runs (74) and total bases (749).
The Monarchs continue to be paced by freshman Carter Trice (.359, 56 H) at the plate. On the mound, junior Hunter Gregory (2.15 ERA) has compiled a team-high 69 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work. The Chesapeake, Virginia native has made 10 appearances and racked up a team-high six victories on the bump.
Scouting the Roadrunners
UTSA (19-19, 11-12 C-USA) is coming off a series split with UAB on the road. The Roadrunners are led by Griffin Paxton (.347) offensively. Joshua Lamb leads the league with seven sacrifice flies. Overall, UTSA is hitting .303 as a team with a 5.25 ERA. They lead the league in sac flies (26). The Roadrunners were selected to finish fifth in the C-USA West preseason poll. At Roadrunner field, UTSA owns an 8-8 mark.
