NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team fell to No. 17 nationally ranked Charlotte by a 3-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex.
In the 19th minute, Alex Willis gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead off an assist from Axel Sigurdarson.
At the half, the 49ers (4-2-1, 4-0-0 C-USA) held advantages for shots (5-2), as well as corners (5-2).
Joe Brito made it a 2-0 lead for Charlotte in the 79th minute off a pass from Luke Johnson.
The 49ers' third goal of the match came in the 87th minute, when Preston Popp finished a pass from Carson Price.
For the match, the 49ers outshot Old Dominion 12-4, while holding a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
ODU's (1-2-3, 0-2-3 C-USA) Djibril Doumbia was credited with three saves in goal for the Monarchs.
Old Dominion will return to the pitch on Saturday, April 10, when the Monarchs take on No. 18 Kentucky at 11 a.m. Next Saturday's match will stream on ESPN+.
