NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis team received the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming 2021 Conference USA Championships held on April 22-25 in Denton, Texas. The Monarchs will take on No. 8 seed UAB on Friday, April 23 at 9 a.m. EST.
No. 34 nationally ranked ODU (9-4) enters the tournament winners of its last seven matches, while outscoring its opponents 39-8 during the win streak.
In the most recent ITA national rankings, Old Dominion had three singles players ranked: No. 52 Yulia Starodubtseva, No. 64 Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and No. 123 Holly Hutchinson. No. 60 Starodubtseva/Alesya Yakubovich and No. 76 Hutchinson/Sasnouskaya are ranked in doubles.
Earlier this week, Hutchinson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
The format will be a four-day single elimination tournament featuring all 14 league teams, with the top two seeds receiving a bye. Matches will consist of six singles and three doubles. Doubles will be played first, followed by singles. Singles matches are two out of three sets, while doubles are a six-game proset, no-AD scoring. The winner of the single-elimination tournament earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
