DADE CITY, Fla. – The Old Dominion women's golf team heads into the final round of the Conference USA Championship in sixth place following a second round 302 (+14) at the par-72, 6,267-yard Lake Jovita Golf Club. Junior Jana Melichova is in first place overall after the first two days of competition.
Melichova led the way for ODU on Tuesday, as she fired a 4-under 68, which marked her best round as a Monarch since the 2018-19 season. The Czech Republic native opened her round on the third hole and found herself even through the first seven holes, she played blemish-free golf highlighted by four birdies the remainder of the way.
"Jana and Leah are playing awesome golf. They are so poised and really grinding hard for our team," ODU head coach Mallory Hetzel expressed. "We need to have better production from the rest of our lineup. If we can accomplish that tomorrow, we will move way up the leaderboard. Our team is excited for the challenge and we will be ready to play."
Leah Onosato currently sits in a tie for fourth following a 1-over 73 in her second trip around the course. Freshman Elsie Verhoeven shot a 6-over 78, a one stroke improvement from her opening round.
Noemie Sudron and Justine Lauer round out the Monarch scoring, turning in an 83 and 94, respectively.
Western Kentucky currently leads the field following two rounds of action.
ODU will tee off beginning at 8 a.m. off of hole one alongside Southern Miss and UTSA in the final round of the C-USA Championship. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
