NORFOLK, Va. – In the regular season finale, the Old Dominion men's soccer team fell to Florida International by a 5-0 score on Saturday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex. Prior to the match, Old Dominion honored senior Edison Giron.

"We just were not good enough today, while everything seemed to bounce FIU's way," said ODU head coach Alan Dawson.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just four minutes into the match after goals from Adam Hassan and Talla Faye.

Kareem Riley gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the 18th minute and then eight minutes later in the 26th minute Matias Barraza scored to give FIU a 4-0 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

Stephen Afrifa made it a 5-0 lead in the 88th minute for Florida International (4-4-1, 3-3-1 C-USA).

For the match, ODU (1-4-3, 0-4-3 C-USA) held an advantage for corner kicks, 5-2, while the Panthers outshot the Monarchs 9-6. Ettore Casadei led the way for Old Dominion with three shots.

Giron appeared in 23 matches throughout his Monarch career and will leave Old Dominion University with a degree in psychology and minor in human services. He has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three times for his work in the classroom. The Alexandria, Virginia native is a five-time Dean's List honoree.

"Edison has been a proud Monarch through his years here at ODU," explained Dawson. "He has been successful both in the classroom and on the field. We wish him well in his future endeavors and look forward to seeing him back on campus as a proud alumnus."
